The Cost Estimator is responsible for the preparation and coordinator of full cost estimates in addition to maintaining a database with current supplier pricing for materials and establishing unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors and location impacts. This Role also works closely with the Program Management, Estimating and Finance departments to perform a variety of tasks. This individual will be instrumental in improving consistency within the existing estimating, award process, as well as the job costing analysis. They will also play a key role with the implementation of new processes and software. This individual will comply with provincial and federal legislation, company and health & safety policies and ISO quality program and procedures.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of secondary school and or college diploma in a related discipline
- Basic knowledge of and or experience of Mold Design and Mold Making
- 3-5 years of work experience in cost analysis and data analytics
- Automotive manufacturing experience is an asset
- Proficient in computers with the ability to use various computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Visual, Viewing software, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and 3D data.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, geometry, and their applications
- Capable of forecasting and solving problems
- Strong communication skills required, High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to adapt and welcome change in a positive manner
Job Requirements and Responsibilities
- Receive RFQ’s from Sales or Customer direct
- Forward any request to appropriate department ex. data, feasibility, block-outs, steel delivery, special cost and timing requests
- Data transfer; log math data, prepare part sizes and print out/complete all necessary information for Estimating package with due date and the name of the customer of the cover sheet
- Prioritize due dates on the RFQ’s and quote accordingly
- Quote molds and parts appropriately
- Send out RFQ’s
- to local, LCC mold shops for mold quotes
- for prototype mold quotes to outside mold shops
- for fixture quotes to outside fixture shops
- Process all the information received by the outside shops and quote accordingly to the Omega Customer
- Complete analysis of all LCC quotes to find best combination and cheapest price for entire mold builds
- Work with Purchasing for steel pricing and to send out target pricing to suppliers for entire tool builds
- Provide feedback to Management on upcoming programs (HPP), OLQ’s and target pricing from our customers (quote approval is required by Management for low profit quotes)
- Positively contribute to a healthy corporate culture by building trust, teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement within the department
- Other duties as assigned
